As the brothers joke, their collaboration began in the city of Toronto in 1964, where they were born. Toronto, a city in Canada that has always been famous for its fashion traditions. They were born into a family of immigrants from Italy, and their real name was Catenacci.
The family had nine children, two brothers were the last to be born. In this large family, everyone, one way or another, influenced the choice of the brothers. Their sisters were real disco queens, and their brothers were rockers. Dean and Dan entered the Parsons School of Design in the USA. They did not study for long, as they ran out of money, and they had to return to Canada, where they began to create their own collection of women's clothing.
In 1988, they were invited to split the post of creative director of the Ports International brand. Their original outlook on fashion was appreciated even then, so the company was counting on their ideas, which would add chic and elegance to the products. Then they began to create collections for the Tabi International brand, which at that time was going through a difficult time.
Having achieved great success, the brothers became prominent figures in the fashion world, therefore, in 1991, the Versace Fashion House drew attention to them, inviting them to move to Milan and work in the legendary house as designers. At the same time, Dean and Dan also work for Diesel, a famous denim brand. It was here that they received serious funding that helped them create their own fashion label.
In 1994, the designers presented the first collection of menswear. This collection was created then also because the brothers needed the clothes that they wore to the parties organized by them, which delighted the whole of Milan. The brothers' wild ideas were enthusiastically received by the Milan audience. For example, when their models took to the catwalk from a pink jet plane or tight jeans, faded T-shirts, shirts with a collar a la Austin Powers. Their unusual ideas, embodied in the model, instantly resonated with those who especially wanted to look unusual.
When the brothers found themselves in Milan, they immediately decided to develop Italian traditions together with their own national ones, which are characterized by North American humor. Therefore, fashionistas, devoid of pathos, fell in love with this style.
The brothers, unlike many designers, do not focus on demand and fashion trends, since they consider fashion to be a creative occupation, their motto is - Do as for yourself. Apparently this is the secret of success. Not only in fashion, but in any other field of activity, creative freedom can be the beginning of commercial success.
Since 1994, they have been producing men's clothing collections, and since 2003, they have entered the women's fashion market.
Designers break all the rules developed by the fashion market and become famous, first of all, due to a unique concept aimed at creating clothes for young people and adults who want to emphasize their style and attract attention.
The creators of the brand invite celebrities to their shows. At the DSquared2 fashion show in September 2007, they took to the stage in an American car Rihannaand in January 2010 Bill Kaulitz was invited to the Autumn / Winter 2010 show in Milan to open and close the Dsquared2 menswear presentation.In 2006, the designers developed a new football uniform for the Juventus team, and in 2008, together with Marcolin, they created a new series of sunglasses that instantly became a cult.
