Cropped women's culottes

mystylex.techinfus.com/en/ loves dresses and skirts, a truly feminine clothing that makes any woman more feminine, delicate and beautiful. But despite this, there are no fewer women in trousers of different lengths on city streets than women in skirts. Most often this is explained by the fact that trousers are much more comfortable. In some cases, this is true.

Until the end of the 18th century, the topic of trousers for women did not actually exist. But there were exceptions - for example, women working in the mines or women who were oyster fishers. All of these women had hard jobs to make a living, and hardly anyone objected to such clothing or speculated about their claims of emancipation. The original and traditional women's clothing was a dress and a skirt. All that has been said applies only to European culture; in eastern countries, women's trousers were taken for granted.

When did a woman begin to win her rights to wear men's trousers? All revolutions taking place in various countries of the world brought not only wars, tragic, broken lives and a scaffold, but also the opportunity for women to win their rights.

The French Revolution (1789 - 1799) allowed women to "conquer" the opportunity to wear men's pantaloons.

Culottes are cropped trousers, above the ankle and just below the knee. The word culottes is of French origin (culottes). In different periods, their length varied, but was always within the range - below the knee and just above the ankle. Originally, culottes were men's pantaloons, and were worn by the aristocrats and the bourgeoisie with silk stockings, which were fastened with fasteners under the knee.

In principle, the revolutionaries did not wear short pantaloons, considering them an attribute of the nobility and the bourgeoisie. They put on long trousers made of coarse fabric, and later received the nickname - sans-culottes - sans culottes, from sans - without and culotte - short pants. In the future, all revolutionaries began to be called that. Some underprivileged women also wore long trousers. However, the reaction of even male revolutionaries to such rights has been harsh.

Back in the 19th century, horseback riding became a popular pastime for ladies of the world. And gradually, for the sake of safety, women began to use the male saddle. This is how first split skirts appeared, and later skirt-trousers - a combination of riding trousers and a removable top skirt.

Cycling, which appeared at the end of the 19th century, has become very popular among women of the "upper" strata of society. Thus, the skirt had to give way to trousers, which some were too short. Trousers or skirt-trousers have become the norm for cycling.

At the beginning of the 20th century, women had an even greater need for clothing that was comfortable for an active life. If Coco Chanel promoted the idea of wearing trousers, then Elsa Schiaparelli constantly created clothes that are comfortable for sports, including a skirt-trousers.

The ideal of being laced up in a corset gradually dwindled. In the 1920s, a new ideal of a woman was established - slim, athletic, active and self-confident, choosing both a non-female profession and non-feminine clothing lines. Almost simultaneously with Elsa Schiaparelli American couturier Charles James also offers culottes.

There comes an opportunity for women to put on trousers, although this took place in different countries in different ways, and with varying degrees of success. But as for culottes, they were put on again in the 60s, and then in the 90s of the last century. True, this was no longer accompanied by sharp indignations from the public, since, in general, trousers of various kinds were already acceptable, and women's legs in trousers no longer caused a storm of indignation.

In the 90s, culottes appeared on the catwalk in the Jil Sander collection.
Now culottes are back in our wardrobe.

They have appeared in many collections, they are combined with various blouses, shirts, tops, jackets and sweaters. Culottes are made of plain fabrics and with prints, from transparent, silk and dense fabrics, with a bright, soft pastel and restrained palette. Silk culottes are suitable for the summer season, and culottes made of thick suiting will look good with golfs and boots or loafers.
