How to properly store winter clothes in the summer

With the arrival of real warmth, you can safely hide winter things, and even spring jackets and boots for summer storage. But before sending things for storage, you should think over all the nuances in order to provide our fur coats, jackets and other warm things with decent storage. Otherwise, with the onset of cold weather, you will have to seriously spend money on updating your wardrobe, because things do not tolerate negligence and may lose their visual appeal.

Fur coats and short fur coats

Before sending the fur coat to the closet or dressing room, dry it thoroughly in the shade (in the sun the fur will burn out and lose elasticity), and then comb the fur with a special comb. After that, shake the fur coat several times to knock out the dust from it. Then you can hide the fur coat in a cotton cover and send it for summer storage.

If you don't have a linen cover, purchase one. You cannot store a fur coat in a plastic bag, it will simply "suffocate"! In addition, the unventilated environment in the bag promotes the multiplication of all kinds of bacteria and fungi, so after six months you may find mold on things.

In addition to simple linen covers, covers made of different materials are available for sale. Such products may include a piece of transparent film through which part of the product is visible, in addition, they have a part of a thin mesh that allows the fur products to ventilate and breathe.

It is impossible to store a fur coat folded, this will surely ruin its appearance, because the fur will be crumpled over long months of storage and most likely will not return to its original state. Therefore, the fur coat should hang on a hanger, and so that the shoulders do not deform, you need to choose wide wooden hangers.

These storage rules are well suited for sheepskin coats and leather jackets with fur trim.... And fur hats are best hung neatly; this is especially easy to do with caps such as earflaps, the ears of which can be fastened on hangers or a bar in the closet.

Various means help keep fur things from moths - special moth sprays, lavender sprigs and a simple newspaper. We stuff lavender in bags and lay out or hang in different corners of the cabinet.

Especially expensive fur coats, sheepskin coats and other leather and fur products can be handed over to special salons for the summer, where they will be treated with a protective agent and stored in the refrigerator. Low temperatures prevent fur “aging”, return shine and elasticity to the pile.

Down jackets less whimsical, although they do not tolerate negligence. Therefore, first, wash the item or take it to the dry cleaner. If the down jacket looks completely clean, it should be slightly cleaned and dried thoroughly, otherwise by next winter it may acquire a not the freshest smell.

After cleaning down jacket should be packed in a fabric cover and hung on wide hangers. If you have a lot of outerwear, you can store the down jacket folded. I have kept some down jackets and sports jackets like this for several years now, and they look great.

Storing sweaters and knitwear in summer

All sweaters, sweaters, scarves, hats and other knitted items should be washed before storage, even if they appear clean. Wash and rinse knitted items at the same water temperature - no higher than 30 degrees, because these things can lose their shape due to temperature changes. For washing we use special products or mild shampoo.

Unlike fur coats and sheepskin coats, sweaters and knitted suits should not be stored on a hanger, as they can stretch out and lose their shape. Fold them neatly and place them in a cloth bag or directly into a box where you can put your moth repellent. If you do not have the opportunity to have 6-7 cabinets, you are forced to save space, you can use vacuum bags.

Proper storage of shoes

Before sending warm shoes for summer storage, they must be thoroughly washed, cleaned and dried. To eliminate the unpleasant odor, you can use special deodorants. If you want to save money, use a weak solution of potassium permanganate or hydrogen peroxide, which can be used to gently wipe your shoes.

You can also disinfect your shoes, for which you should moisten a few pieces of cotton wool with vinegar and put inside. After that, the shoes must be put in a plastic bag, tied tightly and left for twelve hours. To maintain the shape, you need to insert special pads, in the absence of which a tightly crumpled newspaper is quite suitable.

Then we grease leather boots and boots with fat cream, wax or special impregnation, and then we send each pair to a separate box. I have 50 pairs of shoes, so I know how difficult it is to find the right pair among the boxes. To make it easier to find, you can stick a photo of the shoe on each box.
