Feronniere. This is a head ornament that was very popular in the first half of the 19th century. Feronniere is a hoop or chain with a pearl or precious pendant hanging down the middle of the forehead.

At the beginning of the 19th century, this women's accessory became so fashionable that it became a first necessity. And so, the feronniere was considered a special decoration. Sometimes it was included among the many adornments that were part of a large parure. A precious stone, pearl, gold star, a small rosette of several stones could be used as a pendant. Feronnieres with a drop of pearls of a rare shape and color were especially appreciated. The jewel was attached to a gold chain or hoop, the ends of which were hidden in the hair.

Noble ladies they wore this decoration only on special occasions - at a ball or social events. But, as always, there were those who, claiming to be involved in high society, put on a feronniere in the most inappropriate situation. Naturally, such hapless beauties became the subject of ridicule from others.

Feronnieres quickly went out of fashion, they were forgotten already in the middle of the 19th century. But at the beginning of the twentieth century, feronniere began to be used again, and not only with a chain and a hoop, but also with a thin velvet ribbon. Today the feronniere can be found as a wedding decoration for the bride; it looks especially attractive on boho-style brides.
