Mules - the history of shoes and photos from current collections

Mules are shoes without a heel, that is, the heel is completely open. The convenience of a mule is that it can be quickly removed. Their story began with ordinary slippers with a closed toe and also without a backdrop. Already in Ancient Egypt, similar shoes were. True, because of the hot climate, shoes were rarely worn there, basically everyone walked barefoot, and if they did, then certainly people of a noble family.

When entering a temple or palace, it could be easily removed. V Ancient rome such shoes also took place, they were considered ceremonial. These shoes originally belonged to the nobility, who did not have to work. Rich people could demonstrate by donning mules that they weren’t the type to bother with work. For the common people, on the contrary, shoes without a heel were unacceptable.

Mules - the history of shoes

In the Baroque era, both men and women took an interest in her. Shoes were made not only from leather, they chose various materials: cotton, brocade, velvet, and also silk. And then, too, mules were worn only by the nobility. A special heyday of the mule falls on the Rococo era.

But when the courtesans put them on in their boudoirs, these shoes began to lose their popularity in "decent" society. And, despite this, the exhibits of the world's museums and the canvases of famous artists can tell us that mules continued to exist not only in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Later in the early twentieth century, and then in the 1950s, thanks to Marilyn Monroe, mule shoes are back to their former glory. All the beauties of Hollywood began to wear mules. If earlier mules were always with a closed nose, now new interesting items with an open nose began to appear. They began to be decorated with lacing, straps, rhinestones, beads, and the model of the heel, its shape and height, constantly changed.

In the 1950s, mules took to the street from the boudoir. From about the same time, the mules began to rise higher and higher. When they found themselves in high heels, the women of fashion immediately felt shortcomings in these shoes: a strong slope of the sole and a deep cut made it difficult to keep the shoes on their feet, they had to "curl" their toes. Calluses and calluses appeared on my legs. In addition, when walking, the shoes knocked loudly.

The Springolator insole, invented by Maxwell Sachs in 1954, made the difference. The insole was made of elastic and leather and was placed under the beginning of the foot. And mules began to be worn everywhere: in bars, brothels, in the bedroom, on the street ...

However, the cost of insoles led to the fact that in the late 60s mules began to gradually disappear from the shoe wardrobe.

What to wear with mules

Designers offer a variety of mules. Some models are very graceful, feminine and beautiful, but in many collections you can see really ugly mules, which are still uncomfortable. But today, various experiments with images are permissible, you can drop all the rules, the main thing is not to bring your image to the point of absurdity.

In addition, you should remember the rules of harmonious combination in colors and materials: the option that is more suitable for the sea is wicker slippers, for the city - mules made of leather or suede. And you should also take into account the history of the mule, they were originally the shoes of the aristocracy and demonstrated the possibility of not working. Therefore, if you move a lot, especially in public transport, heeled mules are not the most convenient option.

High-heeled mules are perfect for both classic style and evening wear. Casual style prefers lower and wider heels. In general, the choice of heels depends on your figure. So that there is no dissonance in proportions, women with a larger figure are better off choosing models with a thickened heel shape, it is better even with square, slender and thin legs high and thin heels are suitable.

In modern fashion, mules have appeared without a heel, or even with a solid sole, but if you are picky about the names of shoes, then these are still not mules ...
