Breeches (from the French. Galliffet) - trousers that fit the shins, and are strongly extended at the hips. Breeches is the Russian name for trousers. It is given by the name of the French general Gaston Auguste de Galiffe (1830-1909), who came up with this unusual cut for that time. The trousers, as it turned out later, were very comfortable for cavalrymen.

They say that the general was wounded in the thigh area during the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871), and although a lot of time has passed since then, the injury made itself felt, especially when he had to wear tight tight trousers, in fashion that time. In order not to show his discomfort in public, he tried more and more to limit himself in communication.

But one day it turned out to be impossible for him to refuse an invitation to the ball ... And here the unusual trousers invented by him appeared. But the legend about this invention tells that there was also female participation. Be that as it may, and trousers-breeches, already named so in Russia, were further spread not only in the French army, but also in the armies of other countries.





This cut deserved special attention in the 80s of the last century, and women reacted to breeches much more actively than men. Then these trousers appeared from time to time, however, not disappearing at all. And in the 2010-2011 season, the designers did a great job experimenting with the original cut.
