There is no generally accepted school uniform in modern Russia. Each school can make its own rules, which is why our schoolgirls are so different. Most often, available fabrics of gray, white, dark blue, burgundy and black are used for school uniforms, sometimes with small simple prints. In some schools, girls wear skirts and vests with tartan prints.

In Soviet times, the choice was much less, then they tried to standardize everything. The school uniform for girls did not change for many years, it strongly resembled the uniform of a maid from the 19th and early 20th centuries. This form of clothing, as it were, symbolized the subordinate position of a girl - a schoolgirl, who must obey teachers and parents.



USSR sought to renounce values Tsarist Russia, but it was not possible to create a completely new system. Therefore, they took the best from the past and reworked it to fit the new reality. The form of a maid was associated with labor, and in the USSR they tried to extol labor as the most important virtue.

But not only in the USSR, school uniforms taught girls to obedience and work. In Great Britain, even during the time of King Henry VIII (first half of the 16th century), there was already the first uniform for children. The very first form turned out to be very modest and blue, since it was believed that the blue color would teach children to work and humility.




The maid did a lot of housework. She had to be invisible and at the same time look decent, perhaps even beautiful, so as not to spoil the interior of the house. The image of a maid should not contain a hint of sexuality, but demonstrate obedience, discipline, neatness and homeliness. These are the associations that should arise at the sight of a maid in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Housekeepers often lived in the home of their employers and, in addition to their salary, received room, food and clothing. At the same time, the very salary for the maid was quite modest. The life of Soviet schoolgirls was in many ways similar to the life of maids, because in general all Soviet people lived modestly, had small apartments, low incomes and a small wardrobe.

Years have passed, the way of life has changed, and associations with images have changed. Now the image of a maid does not seem so modest and chaste. In recent years, the maid outfit has taken on a sexy connotation.

A modern schoolgirl does not have to look sexy, while she has more freedom than a Soviet schoolgirl and a real maid of the 19th century. A rare girl knows what obedience and humility are. Therefore, the form is now different. Schoolgirls dress up beautiful dresses with sleeves, sheath dresses with a collar, stylish blouses, fashionable jackets and skirts of different lengths.
