Margaret Leigh is a former model, Swedish by nationality, together with her husband Wolfgang Lei founded the Fashion House in 1976. Margaret already had experience working as a fashion designer for the German company Mondi. She also took part in the development of clothing design for other brands, and Wolfgang was a famous businessman, they perfectly complemented each other in business partnerships, so business in the fashion house was successful.

The couple gave the name to the brand by the name of the Irish horse, when during the races, having made a bet on this horse, they won. In 1978, Margaret and Wolfgang Leigh launched the first high-quality Escada sportswear collection, which brought them tremendous success.


After a while, they launched a line of expensive casual wear for women, then introduced a new brand - Laurel. The brand's products were targeted at middle-income women and have become equally successful.

In the eighties, there was an increased interest of the global market in German fashion, and Wolfgang Lei decided to launch a chain of branded boutiques in all major European cities, including the USA and Japan. By the early 90s, Escada turned into a real corporation that produced not only clothing lines, but also shoes, underwear, jewelry, perfumery, cosmetics and various accessories.

In 1992when Margaret died, the fashion house began to decline, coinciding with the economic crisis. The company changed owners, incurred losses.

But whoever is at the head of the brand, collections have always been characterized by elegance. In 1994, the Escada Sport sports line was launched, which soon became an independent label.

In 1995 Escada has launched a line of knitwear available in a wide variety of unusual colors. However, the often changing management and the resulting internal conflicts weakened the company's financial condition. 2008 ended with heavy losses, and on August 11, 2009 Escada filed for bankruptcy.

November 2009 It was bought by the Indian billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, who lives in London, for his daughter-in-law, Megha Mittal.

Today, the new designer Niall Sloan, having carefully studied all the heritage of the fashion house, tries to preserve its traditions, but at the same time does not forget to combine them with the new trends of modern fashion. Margaret Leigh preferred unusual and bright colors and patterns, many patterns and decorative embroidery, all with the embodiment of elegance and delicate taste.



Noall Sloane brought back the gold button, the iconic Escada accessory, and the brand's logo. Bright twinsets (knitted two-piece) have again taken their place in the brand's collection.Sometime in the 70s and 80s, this set, despite its simplicity, gained popularity all over the world, along with such things as a sheath dress, straight trousers, pencil skirt, trench coat.
