The youngest Niki dreamed of becoming a designer since childhood. From her grandmother, she took over the basics of tailoring science, and learned to sew early. Together with her mother, Niki went to buy interesting fabrics, and sewed dresses for herself, inventing her own styles.



She then enrolled at The Fashion Design Studio at Ultimo TAFE and, after graduating, completed internships with brands specializing in swimwear. When she turned 22, she was determined to move on and started her own company.

Hard work began. During the week she sewed things in her parents' garage, and on weekends she went to the Paddington Fashion and Art Fair, where she sold them. Niki thinks this fair was a great start for her. The Paddington Markets was a community initiative at Paddington Church.



In the early 90s, it was the center of fashion, where people came to shop, and where many designers, craftsmen and artists began their career. Market money went to help the homeless and to support budding designers.

Nicky liked the opportunity to sell her work. She enjoyed communicating with people who tried on her dresses, got to know them, and found future clients here. Her products were noticed by the stylist Australian Vogue, who highly appreciated the work of the master on the pages of one of the magazines. Nicky received her first wholesale orders.



From that moment on, her older sister, who had returned from London the day before, joined in the work. A year later, the sisters opened their first shop, continuing to work at the fair on weekends. Many will, perhaps, not understand how success came in such a record time. On the one hand - hard work, but on the other - for Nika it was a favorite job.

But there is one more important component - Nicky liked communicating with people who came and were interested in her things. She felt as happy as those women who bought the dresses she liked, Niki was happy with them. "... After all, our client comes to us not just for another dress, but for the happiness that it brings her when she puts it on."



Today, Zimmermann's flagship store is located in Sydney, close to the same fair where Nicky's success began. A little more time passed, and Nicky, now with Simone, began to think about the possibility of participating in Australian Fashion Week. This happened in Sydney in 1996. The Zimmermann sisters were invited to take part in this fashion week along with other famous designers in the country.

Although the show was small, it brought together many international editors and buyers from the world's major department stores, most importantly from Paris, London and New York. And again success - the entire collection was ordered, and besides this, a report was prepared about Zimmermann on American television. Clients from America appeared.



At this time, at the show, the sisters combined two lines, where there were both dresses and swimwear. Therefore, orders went to them along both lines. Swimwear is still an important part of the Zimmermann business today, models of which are always unusual with a perfect fit on the body, with original details. Therefore, they are worn by demanding and famous fashionistas of the world.

Since September 2014, the Zimmermann brand has been showing its collections at New York Fashion Week... By this time in America they already knew about them, there were already regular customers among American fashionistas.

Today, Zimmermann brand items are presented in almost every large department store in the United States, in addition to this, there are more than ten of their own stores. The brand's business is expanding. Offices and shops are opened in other countries. Zimmermann showrooms are located in Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London.
