Men's fashion clothes spring-summer 2020

At the end of June, the shows of the men's fashion week of the spring-summer 2020 season took place in Paris. Today we will again look at the male looks of the upcoming season and try to figure it out ...

Over the past decades, men's clothing collections have shocked viewers more than once and become a real entertainment for many journalists and bloggers, who choose photos of the most ridiculous images for their articles and invite their readers to laugh together.

But, nevertheless, the designers of world famous clothing brands still continue with enviable persistence, at first glance, seemingly ridiculous experiments with men's fashion. So what's going on? And will men in the near future or not very soon wear all these pastel-colored skirts and dresses that we see on the catwalk?

It might look strange

A bit of fashion history

As a matter of fact, let's start from afar. Let's start with history. Skirts and dresses, which are shocking to the layman, and which designers are increasingly suggesting to be worn by men, are nothing more than a return to the clothes of the past. After all, initially, both dresses and skirts were elements of men's clothing. Skirts and dresses in the days of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, and even in the days of medieval knights were considered quite normal and ordinary men's clothing.

In ancient Greece, men's dresses were called chitons, in ancient Rome - tunics. V Middle Ages knights wore tight-fitting trousers, a la modern leggings, and outerwear, a distant prototype of modern jackets, with the lower part gathered in folds in the form of a skirt.

But this is already quite possible to wear, right?

Even more interesting things were in men's fashion in the 17th-18th centuries - men wore stockings and lace, as well as long wigs with a perm, used whitewash and blush, but this did not stop them from fighting duels for beautiful ladies.

But this is just beautiful

So when we see skirts and dresses on the catwalks, the designers do not invent anything new, they simply refer to the history of the men's suit.

Louis Vuitton menswear

The Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2020 collection is made in pastel colors (a la Rococo, 18th century), as well as in gray and white colors, using floral prints (again Rococo) and oriental motifs
(Chinese hats and raincoats).

Likewise with color. The dark colors of men's clothing we are used to is a story from the 19th century. But in the 18th century, gentle pastel shades were in men's fashion. In the Middle Ages, both in men's and women's clothing, they loved bright contrasting combinations of green and red, yellow and blue colors.

So nothing is new under the moon.

However, you can borrow not only from the history of the men's suit, but also mix. Which I did Thom Browne brand in its spring-summer 2020 collection. After all, women's fashion borrowed from the men's suit first dresses, and then jackets and trousers, so why not go the other way?

Here, just like in the Louis Vuitton collection, the delicate pastel rococo color scheme, oriental (Japanese) motifs, but at the same time, for example, skirts or just the frames themselves, not covered with skirts, are already borrowed not from men, but from women's fashion of the same rococo. And, you see, unlike the Louis Vuitton collection, the Thom Browne collection is more shocking and bright.

While the goal of the Louis Vuitton collection is to slowly but surely change men's fashion, the goal of the Thom Browne collection is to attract attention, shock the audience, but at the same time make less innovative menswear collections more acceptable to viewers and ultimately buyers, for example , the same collection from Louis Vuitton.

Why is this being done today?

Why do designers today more and more often show their imagination when developing men's clothing collections? Probably, the answer is obvious, it is difficult to experiment with trousers, jackets and shirts and come up with new images. And this is what fashion designers love most of all - to create, create, something new, albeit based on the fashion of past eras. After all, we know that this is how it is in women's fashion: the new is always the well forgotten old.

But not only creativity. Fashion is also a business. At the same time, the main buyer throughout the twentieth century is women. In the 21st century, fashion more and more begins to focus not only on women, but also on men.

Perhaps due to the fact that women have developed immunity, and they more and more often prefer simple and comfortable things to fashionable novelties. For men, this game, a game of fashion, will be new, and therefore interesting. However, so far it looks ridiculous and ridiculous in many ways. But you know what a fashion cycle is?

First, some strange and crazy thing appears, no one wants to wear it, then they start advertising this thing, famous artists and musicians start wearing it, and the thing becomes popular. Now everyone wants to wear it, but at the same time it is expensive and not available to many.

Then the thing becomes cheaper and literally everyone starts to walk in this most fashionable and beautiful thing, and then it goes out of fashion. So from season to season it happens with women's fashion, and it will be the same with men's. So men's fashion today is a very promising direction for any fashion brand.
