Why are few stylists specializing in creating male looks? Why don't all brands create clothes for men? I walk around the city and am proud of the brevity, complexity, boldness of combinations that men of all ages allow themselves. Many dress fashionably, even with a limited assortment. To prepare a review, I had to revise all the iconic shows of the 2020-2021 season, looking for men's bows in the collections of fashion houses.

My name is Elena Khmelevskaya, I am a stylist-image maker. In my review, I want to highlight the men's fashion trends for the fall-winter season 2020-2021. I've analyzed bold and conservative shows, so my review will include both wearable and fashion looks. Adapt and experiment.

Knitted cardigans and sweaters

In autumn and winter, knitted things are asked for in the wardrobe. Agnona suggests wearing classic cardigans, Ami embroidered sweaters, Dior Men with a print, Isabel Marant chunky knit with braids. Burberry showcases multicolored striped knitwear in its collection.

I advise getting a sophisticated sweater because it is easy to style and neutralize with black pants or jeans. The sweater can be the second layer on top of a shirt or high-necked T-shirt. Another stylistic trick is to wear a sweater instead of a scarf.

Leather and suede trousers

Leather is a buzzing trend, presented on the catwalks in all colors. I consider leather pants to be an investment in a wardrobe and a model that will be sold in stores. Combine a leather bottom with shirts, topical turtlenecks, raincoats, coats. Look for leather pants from brands: Acne Studios, Amiri, Astrid Andersen, Balenciaga, Coach, GmbH.

Gray coat fall-winter 2020-2021

Most men's fashion trends are synonymous with women's fashion trends, and the gray coat is no exception. Timeless classics from Isabel Marant side by side on the catwalks with interesting puffy coats from Alyx. Gray goes well with bright colors and achromats (black and white).

Corduroy and velvet pants

Men's wardrobe is poorer than women's, it has fewer items, accessories, so playing with texture is more common. Velvet trousers are not an easy wardrobe item; integrating them into everyday looks is more difficult than corduroy trousers, which, on the contrary, are very understandable and comfortable for winter. I'll tell you right away about an interesting and trendy detail - a lace instead of a belt. The drawstrings on the trousers, the tightened ties on the sweatshirts are fashionable features that will quickly and easily make your look modern. Brands: Amiri, Oliver Spencer, Etudes, Andrea Pompilio, Ami.

Leather coat

Fashionable leather men's raincoats are not long, so they will not drastically change the concept of style and make their owner Neo from the Matrix. Designers and stylists, on the contrary, try to reduce the selfishness of a leather cloak, make it just a layer in a complex image, or part of an elegant or business set. There is no emphasis on the cloak itself. Color can also reduce the pretentiousness of a leather coat.

Sheepskin coats

Fur coats and sheepskin coats in a men's wardrobe are not know-how. But we are not talking about shiny sheepskin coats from the market, but about modern models. Coach showcases short models, Celine sheepskin coats are longer, and the longest in the Isabel Marant collection.

Polo 2020-2021

Polo shirts do not look relaxed due to the fastening of the collar, they can be used for both sporty and classic looks. Missoni showcases a long sleeve polo shirt paired with a classic suit, while Coach has a bright polo in the first layer of a sweater and jacket set.

Anorak

Anorak is a windbreaker with a short closure, placket or front pocket, worn over the head. Anorak has been on show for several seasons, both in men's and women's collections. But this is more of a micro trend. He shot especially well in the children's wardrobe. Anorak on boys looks very stylish.

Vests

For me, as a stylist, vests are a must-have for a man's style. This has been proven by schoolchildren, Peaky Blinders, Wasserman. Now fashion is not limited to one type of vest, bright knitted fabrics are relevant, like in Lacoste, complex ones with pockets, like in Antonio Marras, long puffed ones, like in Bottega Veneta. A suit vest is a basic thing, it can be combined with a jacket, just with a shirt, a T-shirt, like Johnny Depp. The vest creates vertical lines that will slim down, which is important not only for feminine forms.

Leather jackets

Biker jackets are present at fashion shows, but they are fitted, which helps to form a beautiful masculine silhouette due to the voluminous shoulder girdle.

Bomber

The bomber jacket is a sporty long-lasting trend, not so much a fashion as a classic. Designers play with models and presentation. Dior Men has paired a sophisticated two-tone bomber jacket with chelsea boots, black trousers and a cap. Balenciaga played with a voluminous bomber jacket with a long striped shirt, jeans and a red baseball cap.

Workouts

Sweatpants are worn under everything. Stylists make up the most diverse images with them. Tuck the top into colorful sweatpants like Astrid Andersen has shown on the models. But take your choice of sweatpants with all the trepidation if you plan to wear them outside the gym. Girls do not like unfashionable gray knit pants stretched out on the knees. Either sports, or a complex fashion look, only this way and not otherwise.

Leather jackets

Everything that can be sewn from leather, this season designers have sewn from it. If you don't like the raincoat or are tired of the leather jacket, then buy a leather jacket.

Total jeans in men's fashion

Long tube jeans are in vogue, which Botter suggests wearing with a large lapel and a denim jacket. Complex shoes will be able to diversify the banal image; together with an interesting lapel of the trousers, they will take all the attention. A completely denim look can be interestingly beaten with a neckerchief; instead of a jacket, there can be a denim shirt of a complex cut.

Costumes

A suit is in the wardrobe of almost every man, but it usually hangs in the closet and waits for the next occasion. But it can and should be worn like Brandon Maxwell with a hoodie, like Bottega Veneta with a shirt, turtleneck and chain.

Turtleneck

Colored turtlenecks have captured the minds of most brands. You don't have to buy a turtleneck, you can buy a colored shirt, like Howard Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory.

Cycling shorts

If in a women's wardrobe, bicycles have become a stylistic stumbling block for many, then in a men's wardrobe they are shocking in their purest form. But the humor on the podium has not yet been canceled.

Blue color

On the one hand, where the men's wardrobe is without blue, on the other hand, the actual blue color is bright, there is a lot of it in the image, outerwear, trousers, suits, turtlenecks are made of blue.

Neon fall winter

One neon wardrobe item needs neutralization. But if you have in your wardrobe a whole suit of the color "pluck out your eyes", then it already needs to be played up with complex elements, because its owner clearly wants to cause fire on himself. Therefore, we choose black classic trousers for a neon shirt, for a suit - sneakers, a bag, a turtleneck and a keychain on a belt.

Lavender

A cool muted purple shirt is in the wardrobe of most men. But designers show images that are composed entirely in one color. Perhaps to exaggerate the trend, or perhaps to motivate courage.

Animal print

Zebras, leopards, pythons have moved from women's collections to men's wardrobes and slowly take root in them. If women are no longer satisfied with a printed handbag and shoes, then men should start with accents, and it is better to finish with them. Although the Ami zebra-like sweater looks quite neutral.

Pechwork

Patchwork and its imitation is a complex micro-trend, but in a shirt, sweater, patchwork looks wearable, fresh and interesting. Trousers, like Amiri, are for the decisive.

Cell

There are many cells, the cells are different, including accent and colored ones, most often found in a costume group.

Ties

It is strange to focus on ties, because they are a basic accessory in men's wardrobe. But this season there are so many stories about turtlenecks and bare breasts that there are few ties, and they attract attention against the general background.

Gloves

An important trend. Gloves are colored, long, printed, white, like those of magicians, are present in almost all men's and women's collections. I think this trend is practical and fashionable.

Men's bags

Men's bags are a feature of all fashion shows for the 2020-2021 season. So many men's bags were not presented on the catwalks. Men, tired of wearing beards, start carrying bags.

Scarves

The trend here is not about scarves, but about how to wear them. Just throw one end of the long scarf back.

Earrings

There are a lot of stories on the catwalk about men's jewelry this season. The brightest are earrings. It can be two pearl earrings like Casablanca, neat cuff earrings or one accent earring like most designers who choose to wear jewelry on men. I do not see anything revolutionary in this trend, because the earring is subcultural and ethnic.

Chains and pendants

Designers suggest wearing chains in the usual places - around the neck and at the waist. Chains add chic to bright classic looks, and for grunge style they are close and dear.

Beads and brooches

Of course, men today won't wear beads, it's more of a controversial accent that is added to the look for spice. And I think brooches, like Alexander Vasiliev, are appropriate in a men's wardrobe.

High rise trousers

The manner of wearing clothes is also influenced by fashion. Clothes are tucked into the current high-rise trousers. The trend for a high fit, unfortunately, is only for thin and sonorous ones. Feel free to tuck everything into your pants, including sweaters.

Transparent top

In the collections of brands Acne Studios, Fashion East, see-through mesh clothing is presented. Provocative, but many men from the 70s and 80s have Chinese mesh tank tops in their wardrobe. Therefore, no revolution, just a little eroticism.

Terminator

I would like to note the humorous reference of the Etudes brand to the theme of the film "The Terminator". The film is cult, eternal love, a marketing move.

Long strap tails

This is not a long yellow Off-White belt, but the knee-length end of a classic leather belt made by the Agnona brand.

Bare chest

To create a shocking festive look, I consider the trend on the neckline as a way out and savings. We bought a suit, but a shirt is not needed, only a beautiful chest is needed.

Hairstyles

A man's image without a hairstyle will not be complete. From unusual hairstyles, very short dyed hair, curls, long hair are in fashion.



In some fashion shows, clothes were shown not by inflated or androgynous men, but by engineers with sparse hair. Baba Yaga is against it, but no one asked me, they don't argue about tastes.
