Wardrobe revision: 7 rules from the stylist

As practice shows, if chaos reigns in your closet, then in your head, most likely, it is a mess. Every day we open our wardrobes (dressing rooms) and start digging into them in search of a suitable set of clothes, not paying attention to the fact that a good part of things have not been used for a long time, and we have not worn something at all even once. What we once pushed into the farthest corner lies there, waiting for its finest hour. Will this hour come? Most likely no. More precisely, 99% out of 100, which is NOT!

Wardrobe revision

To arrive at something NEW, you must first deal with the OLD! And the first step is to get rid of EVERYTHING UNNECESSARY. To do this, it is necessary to carry out a procedure called "wardrobe revision". In just seven easy steps, you will get rid of blockages both on your shelves and in your HEADS.

Step 1. Attitude

Wardrobe revision: 7 steps to order and harmony

Yes, you need to start with the right attitude! Anesthesia is recommended for those who are especially impressionable: a glass of wine or coffee with cream, the main thing is to recharge and set one up for new achievements.

It is best to start sorting out the wardrobe (and in general to cleaning) in the early morning, because our mind at this time is as bright as possible, the brain is not overloaded with information, and the body requires activity (in the evening, the body requires to lie down and turn off all the vigorous activity as soon as possible).

Of course, this does not mean that you cannot disassemble your wardrobe in the evening! We are all different, and we all live in our own rhythm. Day, evening, night - choose the most comfortable time for yourself. Just remember to leave negative emotions outside your home. Turn on a slight indifference, forget about pity and GO !!

Step 2. Confidentiality

Down with all the advisers !!

Nobody but you knows what you love and what you really want. How many times have you heard: "what a beautiful blouse, how they sewed on you", while in the shower, not agreeing with what was said. Mom, friend, sister DO NOT KNOW who you really are. It is worth listening exclusively to your feelings. Yes, a blouse can be really good, but looking in the mirror, you understand that the color does not paint you at all or it does not fit the way you would like it to.

It is often very difficult for us and our loved ones to come to terms with the idea that practically a new thing is being discarded. At the same time, the thing has been hanging in the closet for a long time, and for some reason you do not want to wear it. And if this thing was presented to you by someone from your family, then parting with it is doubly difficult. You should not play on the feelings of other people, it will be much more tactful to get rid of all the stale gifts on your own. Yes, and it will be easier for you if no one next to you laments how wasteful and heartless you are;)

Your wardrobe is a reflection of your inner world and a part of your personality. Let yourself decide what you want to see on yourself and on the shelves of your closet every day.

Step 3. Identify problems

Wardrobe problems are as follows:

  • A lot of clothes, but I wear less than half
  • Too boring (monotonous) wardrobe
  • Things don't fit together
  • Things don't paint me
  • Lots of nice things, but nowhere to wear them

Why are things NOT FRIENDLY?

A huge number of girls buy clothes thoughtlessly and spontaneously. They came to the store, saw a blouse with polka dots, grabbed it for joy, and with what to wear it did not come up with. Okay, then I'll pick something up. The third year is hanging with a tag ...

And somewhere in the far drawer are cool trousers purchased in the heat of a sale. For two years, they never made friends with other things. Why? Yes, because you have not thought with what you will wear them. Will they fit with the things you already have.Or what you need to buy in order to get a cool look. It's like buying milk, tomatoes and herring, and then trying to make soup out of all this. You don't do that, do you? You think in advance what kind of dish you will cook, and go to the store, knowing exactly what products you need. IT IS NECESSARY TO DO THE SAME WITH CLOTHES!

There are many beautiful evening dresses (suits, shoes, etc.) in your closet, but there is nowhere to wear them? Ask yourself the question: why am I buying them?

If you were invited to an event, and you didn’t know where to go, and you bought an expensive dress about this, did you think at the time of purchase: where else can I go in it, how often I can use it, will it be APPROPRIATE in the framework of my lifestyle. Most likely no! But in vain. The dress now hangs like a dead weight. You don't want to wear it for another solemn event, because you have already been seen in it, and you will not go to work or for a walk in it.

But you could buy a BASIC dress, play with accessories, put on a jacket or jumper on top, and quite calmly wear it further in everyday life.

Another common problem: my clothes are kind of boring. And things seem to be all good, but it turns out some kind of gray-black-white one and the same. This means that there is NO VARIETY OF COLORS AND SHAPES in your wardrobe.

Many things that you like but rarely wear? Here it is worth thinking about the way of life. Where do you go most often and what clothes do you need for this? If five days a week you go to work with a certain dress code, then it is quite logical to assume that your wardrobe should also consist of at least half of things suitable for work.

Another problem: things are somehow unfashionable. Perhaps you are simply stuck in the past and do not quite understand what is relevant today and what is not. Or maybe you just do not have enough DIRECTION. Good taste needs to be developed and trained!

Step 4. Goal setting

It's time to get to know ...
with ourselves!

First, let's answer the question: what factors influence the contents of any wardrobe?

  • Character
  • Age
  • Social Status
  • Lifestyle
  • Personal preferences
  • Fashion
  • Emotional condition

Now try to analyze the contents of your wardrobe. Does it match your character, status, lifestyle? How relevant are things for your age? Do they reflect your character? Has your emotional state influenced the purchase of certain things? (perhaps you had a prolonged depression or, conversely, a joyful euphoria that lowered the degree of adequacy for a while).

How many things have you gotten under the trend? How relevant are these things today? Is your wardrobe modern? Or are you stuck in the distant past? How would you describe your style?

And finally, think - DO YOU LIKE ALL YOUR THINGS?

Now take a piece of paper and write on it the five epithets that best describe you. Simply put, answer the question - "What am I?"

For example:

  • cheerful
  • bright
  • business
  • independent
  • unpredictable

And immediately answer (verbally) a few more questions:
What do you like?
Where do you go?
What is your environment?
Who do you want to be liked?
What are you sure you will never wear?
What images inspire you?
Describe your ideal style.

Now think, do you have any favorite colors? Or - what colors do you prefer the most today? If you find it difficult to answer, the famous Luscher test will help you. Do not be lazy, spend 10 minutes on it, the result is always quite accurate and very useful for assessing your current emotional state.

How to find your style

In order to create your dream wardrobe, you need to understand what tasks it should perform. For example, all things should be convenient and comfortable, because I often move around the city. Clothing should demonstrate my status, as I regularly conduct business negotiations. Clothing should be feminine and sexy because I want to attract the attention of men.I want to get rid of the feminine style and look young and modern. I am a young mom and I need a beautiful and functional wardrobe. I need a universal wardrobe in which all things are combined with each other.

Finally, having answered all these questions, having understood WHAT YOU LIKE, WHAT YOUR clothes SHOULD TALK ABOUT you, WHAT FUNCTIONS your wardrobe should do, you can set a GOAL: to create YOUR PERFECT wardrobe that suits you in all respects.

Step 5. Parting

It sounds a little sad, but after such a breakup, you will feel a huge relief!

So, bring all your belongings into one room. Divide them into seasons. Those that do not correspond to the current season, put aside for a while. Let's take care of those that you are wearing right now.

Of course, you will need to re-measure all of your clothes to figure out the weakest players. Putting on this or that thing, immediately assess its condition, relevance, how it sits on you, whether you like yourself in it, how often you wear it, whether this color suits you, how comfortable the fabric is, whether this thing brings you joy.

And our "casting" leaves things that:

  • You didn't wear more than a year
  • Worn out or have serious defects
  • Do not sit (if you can change it, and you are ready for it, you can leave it)
  • Hopelessly outdated
  • Do not like / do not bring joy

Don't give these things a second chance! You don't have to keep them in your closet along with the basic clothes you wear and love. They create the ILLUSION of a wardrobe full of things, wasting precious shelf space.

If you are not ready to throw these things away, then think about who you could give or sell them to. If you are not ready for parting at all, put all the "outsiders" in one bag and put them away for a couple of months. If you never remember about them, then you DO NOT NEED them. Accept this and say goodbye to them as soon as possible!

And don't forget to do the same for other seasons.

Step 6. Sorting

After you have decided who is leaving you, you should divide all things into 5 categories.

  1. Give / sell / throw away (those who leave);

  2. Few (if a little so that it will never fit under any circumstances, it is better to immediately send it to the first category. If you need to lose a little weight - leave it, there will be an incentive to lose a couple of kg);

  3. Great / needs to be altered / sent for repair. If the thing is very large, but you really like it, then take it to the atelier and ask to alter it. If you know for sure that you will not bother so much, move it to the first category with a slight movement of your hand. Do not expect that you will grow up or a miracle will happen and the thing will suddenly sit down as it should. And even more so, you shouldn't leave your clothes in case “if I suddenly get better”! You will automatically give these things a negative color. As a rule, all girls want to lose weight, but only a few dream of getting better. The only exception can be pregnancy! If you plan to become a mother in the near future, leave the "giants", in this situation they can really help out);

  4. Does not match the current season. (This pile should no longer contain comrades from the first three categories);

  5. What you love, it suits you, it fits the season, you can and want to wear it right now.

All items from category 5, your favorites, are the backbone of your current wardrobe. Ideally, only these should remain in the closet for the time being. If it is not possible to remove all other clothes outside the closet (or dressing room), then we fold (or hang) it in the farthest zones, SEPARATE FROM your BONE.

It is IMPORTANT to make sure that the "main team" is always at sight, in the zone of maximum access. All these things should be in the same room, within the ONE CABINET. This will make it easier to make kits, and you will also know exactly how many things you really have, what is lacking, and what is already in surplus.

Step 7. Shopping list

Most of the work has been done.

Now you know all your best things in person.It remains to find out how many sets can be made of them and what needs to be purchased. To do this, you need to take all the lows and measure EVERYONE with all the available highs. In this case, the top can and should be combined, for example, top + shirt, shirt + jacket, top for a T-shirt.

Feel free to EXPERIMENT, the more options you try, the more likely you are to learn a lot about your wardrobe! Perhaps you thought that you only had five sets, and you just had to show your imagination, and there were three times more of them. In the process of trying on, immediately notice what is missing in each particular kit to complete the look. Better yet, write it all down on a separate sheet of paper.

Having compiled all the possible options, think about WHAT IS NOT ENOUGH in your wardrobe, in addition to what you have already noted. Perhaps you realized that you do not have enough clothes for the office, then you should buy a couple of suits or just pants and a shirt. Or you found that you do not have a single skirt, but you would like to ...

Or, during the audit, you realized that you didn't like everything at all and you want to completely update your wardrobe. This also happens :)

We thought, digested ... And now we take the checklist and mark everything that you already have in it, cross out what you do not need, and transfer everything that is left to a separate sheet, which automatically turns into SHOPPING- SHEET.

And finally, in the shopping list next to each item, we prescribe the required quantity and parameters of the thing you want to buy.

For example:

Top - 2, white knitted, black satin;
Pants - 1, high-waisted beige.

Take a photo of your shopping list on your phone so you don't get lost! Going to the store, check your list, follow the plan and then you will NOT MAKE PREVIOUS MISTAKES, you will not buy a bunch of unnecessary, shiny-enticing, ruinous and disappointing.

May your choice be CONSCIOUS from this day on.
