Minimalistic decorations, bright monochrome and men's bicycles: what surprised us with the new Jacquemus collection

The brand faced a wave of heated criticism, but this did not diminish the success of the collection "La Montagne", which, by the way, is dedicated to a trip to the mountains.

The show of the new Jacquemus collection has become one of the most anticipated events of this fashion season. The creative director of the brand, Simon Jacquemus, made everyone pretty nervous, and at the same time guess what he will cook for us this time.

Jacquemus is one of those brands that can boast a loud and successful start. Literally from his very first collection, Simon surprised even the most severe fashion critics and secured his "brainchild" a place in the top of the best brands of our time. But, as you know, a sharp takeoff can provide a rapid fall from a height. That is why designers should always be in good shape, keep the audience in suspense, and literally jump over themselves.



After the incredible success of the previous collection and the spectacular fashion show, during which the models paraded against the backdrop of a wheat field, the audience was eagerly awaiting what Simon Jacquemus would be surprised at this time. By the way, I had to wait a very long time - a whole year. As it became known, such a delay was associated with the brand's transition to a new sales strategy: now new collections will arrive in stores immediately after the presentation.

It is worth noting that the creative director of Jacquemus kept intrigue to the last and tormented everyone in anticipation: two weeks before the show, he posted a teaser for the new collection on his Instagram. In the photo, one could see a bright pink box, which contained a bucket hat, binoculars and a new model of the brand's bag (all the same pink). Judging by the photo, one could have guessed at once that the leitmotif of the show would be travel, and the signature “La Montagte” (which in French means “Mountain”) Simon Jacquemus specified exactly what kind of travel would be discussed.

This time, the young designer decided to abandon large-scale decorations: in order to focus the audience's attention exclusively on the new collection, he "headed" towards minimalism. The models from the La Montagne line were shown walking on a bright green floor with a blue backdrop.



For a "fashionable hike in the mountains", the creative director of the brand dressed the models in wide cargo pants, voluminous cropped down jackets and trekking boots. Although the collection was dominated by loose-fitting items, Simon did not cheat on himself and, nevertheless, the collection did not go without a touch of sexuality, which has long become the brand's hallmark.

Against the backdrop of minimalistic scenery, models paraded in tight-fitting suits, emphasizing the figure, lingerie-style dresses and bras. Particularly noteworthy are the “naked” tops and cardigans with a thin metal fastening, proving that during the creation of “La Montagen” Simon Jacquemus was inspired by the trends of the 2000s.



It should be noted, of course, the accessories. In the new collection, there was a place for hiking panamas, caps, wide belts with a pocket, massive sunglasses and already recognizable bags, which were made furry this season.

If we talk about the atmosphere that the new collection of the brand was supposed to convey, that is, about the journey to the mountains, it should be admitted that the male part of the line coped with this task to a greater extent.

The men's fashion show showed looser and more comfortable silhouettes, but even then the creative director of Jacquemus managed to surprise us by dressing the men in crop tops and bicycles.



In the new collection, Simon Jacquemus also played pretty well with proportions - in one look he combines oversized things, for example, a voluminous down jacket, and immediately "equalizes" it with a fitted long sleeve and tight-fitting trousers.

One cannot fail to note the progressive diving casting, which is characteristic of the brand.Models of completely different types appeared on the catwalk (from plus-size to Bella Hadid and Kendall Gener) - this, once again, proved that Jacquemus does not focus on patterns, but creates clothes for everyone, without exception.

The main hit of the show was monochrome bows: only this time Simon made a bet not on warm images in pastel colors, but preferred bright, catchy and even a little flashy colors - what is only the color combination of pink and red.



But, perhaps, all the "surprises" ended in the choice of bright colors. Many fashion critics have rather harshly and negatively assessed the new Jacquemus collection just because this time we saw nothing new.

The creative director of the brand, it seems, has long understood and developed a formula for himself, thanks to which the collections will enjoy commercial success, and he either does not want to move away from it, or does not see the point. Is this worthy of criticism? More likely no than yes. Despite conflicting reviews, Jacquemus has been talked about and debated about. “La Montagne” did not go unnoticed, on the contrary, it became a kind of counterversion of this fashionable season, which means that the sales of the collection are likely to please the representatives of the sensational brand.
