Pavlovo shawls

At the beginning of the 19th century, our Russian shawls and scarves were in no way inferior to the Kashmir shawls and European models, and sometimes surpassed them. They have rightfully earned international fame, and more than once they have been awarded the palm tree at exhibitions. But still, the execution technique was complicated - unlike European and Indian shawls, they did not have a seamy side. Later, in other countries, they mastered this technique. But the price of these shawls made them inaccessible to most of the population.

So that women of all classes could rejoice, looking at themselves in the mirror, and show off "in public", from the middle of the 19th century in Russia began the production of printed shawls. They have become much cheaper than woven fabrics. Now the shawl is becoming available to all strata of Russian society.

The most popular were Pavlovsky Posad shawls from the city of Pavlovsky Posad (Moscow region). Here, from the middle of the 19th century, the production of printed shawls began. Pavlovo-Posad shawls have been awarded more than once by prizes at Russian and international exhibitions.

It should be noted that the printing, or printed pattern on the fabric in Russia has been known for a long time. This craft was familiar to our people in the XI-XII century. Clothes and church vestments, as well as curtains, tents and banners were sewn from printed fabric.

Pavlovo Posad shawls decorated and warmed women until the beginning of the 20th century. Then they gave way to hats and hats. Instead of handkerchiefs, there was a scarf.

Now shawls and scarves are back again and, it seems, are not going to give up their place - they are increasingly appearing in the collections of the best fashion designers.

In the city of Pavlovsky Posad, it is not the first year that a festival has been held in September - a carnival, which gathers not only residents of the city, but also guests. It is here that you can see bright and Pavlovo Posad shawls, and not only shawls, but also many other products that are sewn from shawls: stoles, dresses, corsets, vests, jackets, bags, hats, etc.
