Recently, there have been a lot of negative reviews about this magazine. Bad statements come from completely different people, of different ages, wealth and cultural level. Many are of the opinion that the magazine was created by stupid blondes, for other similar narrow-minded personalities.

There is really little interesting in modern Russian COSMO. Not so long ago I tried to read a magazine. With difficulty he mastered half and hid it in the bottom drawer of the table in order to read it in the future.

How did it all begin, what was the magazine like before and why did it become the way it is today?
Cosmopolitan magazine was born at the end of the 19th century, namely in 1886. Initially, the magazine was focused on the wealthy strata of the population - high society. Accordingly, the content of Cosmopolitan corresponded to the mores of the high society of the time.

The magazine published on its pages materials for women, about fashion trends, comfort at home, cooking, childcare. In addition, the magazine had pages addressed to the children themselves. The cosmopolitan of the time was deprived of candid photos and articles about improving his sex life. You could say the magazine was chaste and even boring.

The end of the 19th century, the beginning of the 20th, times changed, people and culture, life values ​​and worldview changed. The magazine changed owners, passing from one to another. Changed chief editors Cosmopolitan, each of them contributed something new.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the magazine began to transform in terms of design, images began to appear on its pages seductive beauties... This happened thanks to illustrations by Harrison Fisher, who can be called the prototype of modern photographers shooting glamorous photos... Harrison Fisher devoted his entire life to women and in 1907 he published a book that finally strengthened his reputation as an outstanding illustrator. glamorous beauties... Thousands of beauties have sought to model Harrison Fisher and grace the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine. This continued until 1934, when the artist died.

Time passed, the world changed, the magazine lost its popularity, began to decline. It was Helen Gurley Brown, who at the time wrote a book for young, ambitious women and was popular, that saved the Cosmopolitan. She became the editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan and began to openly discuss the issues of sex and relationships. Thanks to her writings, the magazine gained great popularity, which it retains to this day.

In 1994, the Russian version of Cosmopolitan appeared, which replaced the magazines of the Soviet era - Krestyanka, Rabotnitsa and others.

A glance at the history of the magazine makes it clear that the magazine is what people make it. Cosmopolitan is a reflection of our worldview, which is why it is a successful magazine! If Cosmopolitan had continued to publish materials as it was originally, it would have ceased to exist long ago. Therefore, it makes no sense to condemn the magazine, the magazine is what the souls of people living today are.

And if you look at its name, then the origin of Cosmopolitan comes from the word COSMOPOLIT. Translated from Greek, Cosmopolitan is a citizen of the world. Diogenes was proclaimed the first cosmopolitan. And the full meaning of cosmopolitanism is the awareness of the unity of the human race, due to which the interests of individual states and peoples are subject to the common good of mankind as a whole.
