Beauty contests in the USSR - Miss Moscow 1988

Today there are many beauty contests and most beautiful girls are not interested in them. Many girls, on the contrary, disdain beauty contests, where they will be obliged to answer stupid questions from the jury, try to please them with all their might, and they will be strictly evaluated, and as a result, the victory will be awarded to a completely different girl, guided by financial or political reasons.

Modern beauty contests have outlived their usefulness and are of interest only to lazy ordinary people who are curious to watch a competition between beautiful girls on TV.

The final of the Moscow Beauty-88 competition took place on the stage of the Sports Palace in Luzhniki. The beauty contest was held for three days, the chairman of the jury was People's Artist of the USSR Muslim Magomayev.

The organizers of the Soviet competition ostentatiously decided to abandon the generally accepted world beauty standards and announced that a girl with any figure can take part in the competition!

The main idea of this competition was the desire to show that in the USSR, women value not only patriotism, hard work and strength, but also beauty.

Oksana Fandera and Masha Kalinina

Among the six finalists of the Moscow Beauty-88 competition was 20-year-old Oksana Fandera (pictured on the left) - the future actress and wife of director Philip Yankovsky. Despite the sympathy of the jury members, Oksana's lack of a Moscow registration prevented her from winning - Fandera came from Odessa to conquer the capital. Nevertheless, the girl became one of the winners of the competition.

The finalist, Irina Suvorova, had an even greater difficulty - she was married with a child. It was no longer possible to remove her from the competition - after all, she was one of the finalists, but it was impossible to give her the winner's crown. It was originally planned to call the contest "Miss Moscow", so there was no way to give the victory to "Mrs."
