Belarus Fashion Week spring-summer 2016

The 10th season of Belarus Fashion Week ended in Minsk on October 25. The season has become a jubilee. Belarusian Fashion Week has been held for 10 seasons and 5 years. Good enough time. Belarus Fashion Week is a story about stubbornness and ability to work, overcoming all difficulties on its way.

The Belarusian Fashion Week project was launched back in 2010. Then almost no one believed that Belarus Fashion Week would become a permanent and successful project. The first Fashion Weeks in Belarus were mercilessly criticized. And it was not easy for the organizers themselves - there were mistakes, there were failures, there were shortcomings. But there is also an excuse - the project was new for Belarus and definitely large-scale.

For 5 years the Belarusian Fashion Week has grown. For 5 years Belarus Fashion Week has become the platform that is able to unite all people interested in fashion and working in the field of fashion. These are designers, stylists, models, and designers who are just learning, taking their first steps in the fashion world (New Names BFW competition, a platform for showing collections of young designers Off Schedule). These are journalists and bloggers writing about fashion, as well as budding fashion bloggers (Fashion Blog Competition).

For 5 years Belarus Fashion Week has managed to bring Belarusian fashion to a new quality level. And maybe there is no fashion industry and fashion as such in Belarus yet (just yet), but there are already designers who make high-quality clothes. Five years ago, this was not the case either.

Yanina, what is Belarus Fashion Week for you?

Yanina Goncharova (Head of the Belarus Fashion Week Organizing Committee): Job.

Work is the main principle of Belarus Fashion Week. Fashion is not a show and pop stars, it is not social life, it is not a performance or a performance. All of the above is only the result, the outer side. And what is hidden is work, this is business. This is the attitude towards fashion that the organizers of the Belarusian Fashion Week are positioning.

Quite correct if we take the experience of foreign Fashion Weeks (London, Paris, Milan, New York). There, the guests of designer clothes shows are clients of designers and buyers, people who buy clothes from designers, celebrities and the press, people who advertise them. Nobody and nothing more. Fashion Week Is an advertisement for designers, part of their job.
