How to properly protect yourself from the sun

We all certainly know that the sun gives us a lot of positive moments. From it we get light and warmth, the general health and mood improves. The sun's rays stimulate blood circulation, the work of the autonomic nervous system, the synthesis of many biologically active substances in the body, the growth of cells and the strengthening of the protective properties of the body, and much more.

However, the sun's rays have a different spectrum of radiation. And there are those among them that can harm the body, primarily the skin. Therefore, it is in the skin, when exposed to ultraviolet radiation, that Melanin is produced. This reaction is protective to prevent further sun damage. However, not all people have it strong enough.

It is known that the darker the skin, the better its protection from ultraviolet radiation (III - IV skin phototypes). And vice versa: light skin (I - II phototypes) is the most susceptible to the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation.

How to properly protect yourself from the sun

Since childhood, we know that if you are in direct sunlight without a headgear, you can earn "Sunstroke" or "heatstroke", which is characterized by dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms up to loss of consciousness.

On exposed areas of the body, especially on light skin, we can get sunburn, which is characterized by pain, redness, sometimes swelling, and blistering and blistering. But we do not notice most of the harmful effects of the sun, because we observe the results of this exposure after several weeks, and often months or even years.

These include dark spots, benign nevi (or moles, as they are commonly called): lentigo, melasma, actinic keratosis; wrinkles, decreased skin elasticity and even elastosis and much more. All these phenomena are characteristic of the elderly, but recently we are increasingly seeing them in young people aged 25 and older.

Since tanning and methods of achieving it came into fashion, people, coming on vacation and wanting to stock up on "health" as soon as possible, sunbathe in the sun all day, neglecting all methods of protection. To maintain the effect, they regularly go to the solarium, and in the summer they do not consider it necessary to follow the elementary rules of protection from the sun, being under the direct influence of its rays.

As a result of the above, there has been an increase in skin cancers, including among the young population. To keep your skin beautiful, and most importantly healthy, you need to follow simple sun protection measures:

1. Do not be exposed to direct sunlight for more than 30-40 minutes, especially during periods of high solar activity (from 12.00 to 15.00, and in some southern countries from 11:00 to 17:00). To obtain a therapeutic effect, 20-30 minutes of sunbathing in the morning is enough. And remember, even in temperate latitudes, daylight has the same therapeutic effect. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk outdoors in the fresh air during the day to benefit from the sun.

2. When under the sun, be sure to use a hat, sunglasses, and cover the areas most accessible to the rays (shoulders, décolleté area);

3. Use creams containing various sunscreens (physical, chemical) with a sun protection factor of at least 30 (SPF 30+), and for people prone to increased pigmentation - at least 50 (SPF 50+).

4. Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration.

5. Try to be under an umbrella on the beach.

It should be noted separately that people prone to increased pigmentation or redness on the face (rosacea) should choose sunscreens more carefully and be sure to include them in their daily skin care.It is important to pay attention to the degree of sun protection (it should be at least 50), and the additional components of sunscreen.
