To put it this way - ... since childhood he dreamed of becoming a perfumer ... then this is not entirely true. He grew up in a house where all the walls were saturated with Guerlain's scents. His mother bought this famous huge apartment in Paris at 8 rue de Courty from Jean-Paul Guerlain's mother. Probably, these smells cannot be said to create any discomfort, but rather distract her, because Marie-Christine Wittgenstein was the development director of Parfums Christian Dior, where she worked for 47 years.

This company was created by her father - Serge Efleur-Luis. So two Parisian boys, Jean-Paul and Frederic, spent their childhood in the same apartment. Perhaps that would have been enough to foresee Frederick's future.



But let's continue further. His father, Jean-François Malle, was an investment banker, a representative of the American investment bank Lehman Brothers in Europe. Later he became the producer of his brother Louis Malle, the famous French director, and organized for him the production company Nouvelles Editions Françaises. Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle named after Nouvelles Editions Françaises in memory of his father, who died shortly before the founding of the perfume brand.

Frédéric Mal's grandfather was François Coty's right-hand man. When he was 28, he became a manager at Coty, then helped a friend start a perfume company. This friend was Christian Dior, and together they created the Miss Dior fragrance.

Perfumery was a part of life in the family where Frederic Mal grew up. When Frederick was still a child, his mother often took him to the office. There he sat and painted bottles of perfume, and when he got a little older, he used the perfume of the famous brand - Eau Sauvage.



From childhood, Frederick perceived perfume as an everyday and necessary thing. At his age, boys did not yet use perfume, and then Frederick made a discovery for himself. When he entered the perfume business and got acquainted with perfumers, the world of modest and interesting people, educated and gifted, but at the same time always remained in the shadows, opened up for him. "My first idea was - let's show them to the public." And as it turned out, this approach was in great demand by the very audience that is interested in art and design.
