By the end of October, two fashion weeks ended in Ukraine at once - Mercedes Benz Kiev Fashion Days and Ukrainian Fashion Week, which we will tell you about today. A girl who knows a lot about it, if not everything, will talk about Ukrainian fashion. The author of the article is a fashion blogger from Ukraine Ekaterina Pizhova. Ekaterina maintains the Dream la Mode blog, on the pages of which you can read both about fashion in general and about Ukrainian fashion, which is developing at a rapid pace today, in particular.
Recently, fashion weeks - Ukrainian Fashion Week and Mercedes Benz Kiev Fashion Days - have ended in Ukraine, during which successful Ukrainian and foreign designers showed their collections.
Ukrainian Fashion Week, which took place from 10 to 15 October, stands at the origins of Ukrainian fashion as such, it has a longer history and, accordingly, advantages at the organizational level. This year UFW celebrates its 15th anniversary, in honor of which, this season, many interesting off-podium events were programmed - exhibitions, competitions, presentations.
This time 45 designers presented their collections, most of whom constantly take part in the fashion week. Of all the designers, Lilia Litkovskaya pleased the most. In the new collection, she played with the image of a rosebud, borrowed from Orson Welles's masterpiece "Citizen Kane", elements of which are present in the collection in the form of special embroidery and appliqués on tops and in the complex design of individual models. But tops, dresses, trousers and individual details made of processed smooth and perforated leather in combination with products from flowing silk look especially impressive; transformer bags made of nap leather, wedge heels of a complex design and provocative pea boots. The new collection of Lilia Pustovit is, as always, on top. The decoration of the collection is a new author's digital print based on elements of the Ukrainian national embroidery of Western Podillia and Vinnytsia region. Among others, I would note the KamenskayaKononova collection for the excellent play with the classic silhouette and the daring collection of Svetlana Bevza called 21, which is characterized by loose relaxed silhouettes combined with clear lines and geometric shapes, careless layering, offset lines and the play of color blocks dictated by the architectural school Bauhaus.
Separately, it is worth mentioning that with each new season the number of foreign representatives of the fashion industry increases, this time the season was marked by the arrival of buyers and journalists from the UK, Italy, France, Russia and Sweden (including Ms Agathe Schmitt, Who'S NEXT Pr? T -? - Porter Paris; David Hadida, Claire Khoriaty - TRANO ?; Natalie Joos, blogger and stylist www.talesofendearment.com), who in turn noted the level of Ukrainian designers and the quality of the presented collections. So very soon we will hear about the expansion of points of sale of some of them.
Mercedes-Benz Kiev Fashion Days were held from 25 to 28 October. This is a younger and more progressive platform, focused primarily on the global promotion of Ukrainian designers. There are always many representatives of the foreign fashion industry - buyers, bloggers, journalists and critics, who come not only to discover new talents, but also give meaningful lectures and interesting master classes. This season was no exception. The invited guests include Alessandro Buzzi, stylist for Italian Vogue and Vogue.it; Amine Ambarech, Creative Director of L'Ecraireur; Agata Belcen, fashion editor at AnOther Magazine; Natalya Turovnikova - Moscow it-girl, DJ, fashion expert, fashion project manager, author of the Vogue.ru blog and The Muse blog; Guillaume Roujas and Lily Templeton - photo correspondent and journalist for www.nowfashion.com; Sofia Tchkonia - talent scout and founder of the BE NEXT competition for young fashion designers; Michael Hadida is a French scout of young talented designers, founder of the largest exhibition Trano ?; Martyn Roberts is the founder of Vauxhall Fashion Scout and director of Graduate Fashion Week and many others.
Another characteristic feature of MBKFD is the arrival of successful foreign designers. This time the organizers brought David Koma with his spring-summer collection to Kiev. Another guest was Jean Pierre Braganza, who had already come to Kiev with a show, which this time brought a new collection created in collaboration with Ukrainian artist Zinaida Likhacheva. Lamberto Petri and Avtandil showed their collections again at MBKFD. Renowned designer and buyer Romain Brough, who came to lecture last season, this time presented his S / S 13 mens couture collection in the form of a performance with the provocative Bedjamin Doohan aka Burger Girl.
Of the Ukrainian designers, the most impressed by the collection of Julia Pascal. The designer continues to work with the fabric laser perforation technique. This time, the results of Yulia's experiments were light, light dresses decorated with perforated insect nets and prints in the form of huge butterflies. The show of the Odessa brand Jealosy became the opening of the season. Young, but undoubtedly talented designers Sasha Stukalskaya and Tanya Muinho embodied an incredibly complex cut in the new collection and decorated individual items with a funny print with dinosaur motifs. I also liked the collections of Anna October, Maria Bekh, Yasya Minochkina and Ksenia Shnaider.
And of course we can't fail to mention the cool party program. Benjamin Dukhan with his project The Burger Girl, Canadian fashion model Rick Genest, better known as Zombie Boy, freak diva, David LaChapelle's muse and nightlife icon Amanda Lepore, delighted with their performances.
In general, it should be noted that Ukrainian fashion does not stand still, it evolves. We are known and talked about in Europe. Our designers are successfully developing within the country, many are sold in the best countries of the world. In some cases, this is an indicator of the quality work of not only the designers themselves, but also the organizers of fashion weeks.
