DIY fringes and fringed dresses

Fringe is back again. Fringe can change the most modest thing, giving it an elegant or even solemn look. Many designers fantasize using this decoration element, and, as you can see, it turns out very well.

Fringe is appropriate in any style of clothing, and even in ethnic or cowboy style, it plays an important role. Fringe can be used to decorate punk-style leather jackets, bags, shoes, as well as scarves, shawls, cropped jeans. In small dresses in the style of the 20s, fringe is also the basis of the decoration.

And if you dream up yourself, then by making or sewing on a fringe, you can create not only your own designer item, but also "revive" already worn items.

The simplest and most common type of fringe is the “tousled” fabric edges. In this case, the condition for obtaining a beautiful fringe is the straight direction of the warp thread. It is good to perform fringe on plain weave fabrics, on denim fabrics in twill weave.

How to do it?
First, you need to determine the desired width of the fringe and in this place draw out the thread of the fabric. To prevent the other threads from slipping during further pulling, a line is sewn with sufficiently small stitches along the line of the first pulled thread. You can fix the finished edge with a zigzag seam. Then you start pulling the rest of the threads from top to bottom. This is to keep the fringe from getting tangled.

You can make a fringe from yarn. To do this, you need to take a strip of thin cardboard with a length equal to the estimated length of the edging edge. The width of the strip should be 1.5 cm longer than the length of the fringe. Then the yarn is fixed on a template (on cardboard) and the threads are laid one to one close to each other (they should not be stacked on top of each other). Next, the yarn is attached on one side to the cardboard along the width of the seam allowance. On the other hand, the threads are cut and the cardboard is removed under them. This removes some of the cardboard.

The fringe is stitched onto the product and after that the remaining cardboard is removed, after which the fringe is attached again so that it is firmly fixed to the fabric.

Leather fringe. First of all, you need to prepare a strip of leather with a length equal to the length of the edge of the stitching, and a width equal to the width of the fringe plus 1.5 cm. Then put a strip of leather on thick cardboard, and, starting from the edge, cut the strip into ribbons up to 5mm wide, without touching the edge of the increase. When cutting the strip, we use a special knife and a ruler, which limits and at the same time directs the movement of the knife. When we cut the skin, we should press the ruler against the strip so that there are no shifts. The cardboard should be dense.

You can simply buy the fringe and sew it onto the product. In this case, the color, most likely, will differ from the color of the product, and may be contrasting. It depends on your desire and design ability.
