Thierry Wasser and the fragrances of the House of Guerlain

Thierry Wasser was born in Switzerland in 1961, and it was not his passionate dynasty of ancestors who helped him to become a perfumer, but his love for nature and plants. He himself once came to Givaudan and asked to teach him how to create fragrances. He passed the exams, and began to study the art of perfumery with great persistence. Today? Today Thierry Wasser is the leading perfumer of the House of Guerlain. Wasser achieved success when he became a perfumer for the famous House. A kind, almost kinship relationship with Jean-Paul Guerlain gave him strength in creating fragrances, he felt freedom in his imagination, and not pressure from the outside. Wasser continued to improve, and now he is one of the most famous perfumers in the world.

Thanks to his early fascination with plants, Thierry Wasser learned to distinguish between certain odors. Knowledge in botany formed in him a sense of smell, the ability to understand the properties of plants. And of course the smells - they could not leave him indifferent, feeling the beauty of nature in all its manifestations, they interested and attracted Vasser. As a child, by mere chance, he recognized Guerlain's famous perfume - Habit Rouge. Thierry began to dream about him. Years passed, and the dream came true - he bought this fragrance. It can be assumed that the fragrances of Guerlain throughout his adult life attracted to themselves with magical power. After all, in the end he came to the House of Guerlain to become as famous a sorcerer as the entire family of the great perfume house. Becoming a perfumer for the House of Guerlain, Thierry Wasser was able to touch the great creations of ingenious perfumers. He smelled a special scent even from those notebook sheets on which the Guerlains' notes were piled up. He felt the special spirit of the fragrances created from century to century. Which of those masterpieces conquered him more than others? - Mitsouko. According to Wasser himself - Mitsouko is perfection, this is the handwriting of a genius.

But not only nature attracted Thierry Wasser, music was his hobby from the age of four. And this is not surprising. Where, if not in nature, everything is so harmoniously connected, and the aromas resemble musical creations? And the way the notes are connected - so the melody will be so good. Isn't that the case in perfumery? Thierry Wasser studied music from childhood, therefore both hearing and smell in him developed harmoniously, helping to improve the master in himself.

The success in the creation of fragrances was obvious, since the innate desire to achieve harmony in music helps to create in the art of perfumery.

The desire to study nature and music did not immediately allow Vasser to turn to the profession of a perfumer.

For a time he studied English at Cambridge. But before leaving for Cambridge, he was interested in an article in one of the magazines about the perfume house Givaudan. Deep knowledge of nature and passion for botany led him to Givaudan. And after 7 years he became a high-level perfumer at Givaudan.

In 1993, Firmenich offered him a position in the New York branch, where he worked for 9 years. Returning to France, he continued to work in the Paris branch of Firmenich. And since 2008, the famous perfumer Jean-Paul Guerlain invited him to take the position of Guerlain's leading perfumer. Thierry Wasser now has to be responsible not only for the creation of fragrances, but also to control the supply of ingredients, as well as to be responsible for production. And yet in this House he feels completely free in creativity. Thierry Wasser has his own style, and he treats the great perfume house with love and honors its traditions.

Guerlain Fragrance - La Petite Robe Noire

In 2012, Thierry Wasser added La Petite Robe Noire L'Extrait to his collection of fragrances he created. In 2009, a limited edition La Petite Robe Noire was released, then with a slightly modified composition, but with the same name, a fragrance that became part of the Guerlain collection. And in 2012, La Petite Robe Noir L'Extrait was released, which has a sensual shade of a floral-fruity composition. It opens with delicate fruity notes with the freshness of lemon and the sweetness of licorice. The heart of the fragrance is a bouquet of roses and violets, with hints of cherry and almond. The perfume sounds with true Parisian charm. The trail has patchouli, vanilla and musk combined with smoky tea notes, which gives the scent some mystery.

“My name is Little Black Dress. If you have met me at least once, you will never be able to forget me, ”says the charming heroine of the commercial, La Petite Robe Noire.

An unusual task arose before Thierry Wasser, when a project was conceived in which the fragrance of the House of Guerlain sings not the image of a beautiful lady, but a thing, even legendary, but at the same time - a thing. Every girl is familiar with this dress, and it is in almost every wardrobe.

For the first time in history, Thierry Wasser created a fragrance whose name has been known for many years. Usually, perfumes arise from a poetic beginning, sometimes invented by the perfumer himself. And here the situation is somewhat different. Thierry Wasser, choosing the components of the aroma, tried to imagine what the black ingredient should still be here - maybe black cherry, or maybe black tea? And I decided to focus on a truly Guerlain composition and patchouli. This is what formed the basis of the scent for the Little Black Dress. The fragrance was created not only for an evening dress, it, like a little black dress, can be worn in many situations. And besides this, as Thierry Wasser himself believes, this fragrance will appeal to those who feel happy, enjoy life and have a sense of humor.
