Cord embroidery - embroidery process

Cord embroidery can be done by hand or on embroidery machines. Cord embroidery is one of the easiest embroidery techniques. The contour of the drawing is sheathed with a cord, and sometimes a figure is filled with it. The cord can take part in the creation of decorative fasteners on clothes, or it can be an excellent frame for pearls and beads.

The embroidery process itself is quite simple, and consists in laying the finished cord along the lines of the pattern drawn on the fabric. For example, you want to add a new flavor to your coat.

What needs to be done? First, you need to apply a pattern on the fabric that you liked, given that there are many continuous lines in it. You don't need a pencil or crayon for this. Apply the design on tracing paper, and then sew it along the contours of the design to the place where you would like to see the embroidery. Next, carefully remove the tracing paper so that the outlined seams remain along the lines of the pattern. Now attach the cord to fabric, cloth or leather with small cross stitches.

The thread for the stitches is matched to the color of the cord to make the stitches less visible. On straight lines or less curved, the distance between the stitches can be quite large, and on complex, sharply changing directions bends, the distance should be small. So the cord lays down smoothly without sagging.

There are many ways to attach stitches. The stitches can go all the way through the cord and overlap (this is a patch seam), they can go through the middle of the cord, or they can be attached from the inside out (blind seam). In the latter case, the seams on the front side will be completely invisible.

Varieties of cords for embroidery

Cords can differ not only in a variety of colors, but also in configuration and method of execution. Machine-made cords are available from shops that specialize in handicraft supplies. But if you want to make something unique, then you can make them yourself.... This is where you will find many ways to make cords that will expand your possibilities in creating complex and beautiful patterns. The main of these methods are twisting, knitting and weaving.

1. Twisted cords are the simplest type of cords, and making it yourself is not difficult. Take several threads of a certain color and the same length (the number of threads depends on the thickness of the cord you choose). This is called pasmo. Fix one end of the pasmo (folded threads) motionlessly, and rotate the other end until you see that you have twisted it tight enough.

While twisting, make sure that the bag is in tension all the time, otherwise everything can get confused. Tightly rolled sack, without changing the tension, intercept in the middle with one hand, and connect the ends with the other. Holding the middle, release the ends, then twisting into a cord will happen by itself.

2. You can crochet cords, on knitting needles, with the help of shuttles, which knit tatting lace, with bobbins, or simply with the help of one fingers.

3. The weaving of the cords is carried out similarly to the macrame technique, they turn out to be flat.Knits can be either flat or round.

By combining cords of different shapes, you can get amazing embroidery, especially if you include rhinestones in it, beads or pearls... The whole structure and volume of embroidery depends on the shape of the cord.

Silk embroidery is similar to cord embroidery. But in this case, the threads in the sack do not twist, they are simply gathered together and located side by side, and are sewn in the same way as the cord. This embroidery technique has long been used in church embroidery - on church vestments and other items. But the frame embroidery is also perfect for decorating clothes.

Embroidered dress

It is very difficult to iron products with embroidery with a cord, so try to use fabrics that are slightly crease for such embroidery. But if, nevertheless, there is a need to iron, it must be done from the inside out, having previously placed a soft cloth under the product (put a pillow on the ironing board). Otherwise, the cord will lose its relief after ironing.

The simplicity of embroidery with a cord makes this type available for those who are just taking their first steps in embroidery. Experienced craftswomen usually use designer cords and combine cord embroidery with other types of embroidery to create masterpieces of amazing beauty.
