Hemstitch embroidery history and technique of execution

Merezhka is an old way of embroidery that was available to every woman. It is not necessary for her to have a sewing machine, so this type of embroidery has always been popular in many European countries and in Russia. They embroidered napkins, tablecloths, collars, scarves, shirts for both men and women, and of course dresses, skirts, blouses.

Hemstitch embroidery

It takes a lot of time and patience to complete the hemstitch. First, you need to pull out a certain number of threads going in one direction from the fabric, and this must be done carefully and in a count. In this case, it is better to use a fabric from which the threads are easily pulled out. If the structure of the fabric contains intricate weaves of threads, then such a fabric is not suitable for making a hemstitch. The best fabrics can be linen, cambric, linen with lavsan, silk and others like them, and, of course, smooth, not containing a print. The threads must also be selected in accordance with the density of the fabric. They can be not only bobbin threads (cotton), but also floss in several threads, linen and threads that you pulled out of the fabric. The color of the threads with which you will embroider can be chosen one that will effectively convey the hemstitch pattern, but it is better to do this to match the color of the fabric.

Hemstitch embroidery

It is better to wash products with hemstitching in a special bag if in the machine, but neat hand washing is better. It is better to iron such areas with hemstitching through the fabric, as if pressing down with an iron, do not try to drive back and forth - you can deform the embroidery.

You can trim the edges of the sleeves, the bottom of the dress, the bodice, whatever you want, depending on the cut of your clothes. You will turn clothes into lace fantasy with a cutter.
