Struggle with freedom in the modeling business

The fight for the rights of minorities and the fight for the equality of people with different skin colors is rapidly turning into a new dictatorship in all spheres of business and life. The USA and the countries of Western Europe are positioned as the freest part of the world, but every year this freedom becomes more and more illusory.

A year ago, the French government passed a law "against overly skinny models" to save employees and fans of the fashion industry from anorexia, and now the CFDA, led by Diane von Fürstenberg, has decided to fight "lack of diversity" in fashion shows and racial discrimination in general.

Thus, the American Council of Fashion Designers decided to fight racial discrimination in the fashion world. “When contacting modeling agencies, ask them to send girls with different skin colors to the casting. Do not think that they will suggest it themselves, ”- says the instruction of the American Council of Fashion Designers. “Invite colored models every season, not just for spring / summer runway shows,” CFDA recommends.

The American Council of Fashion Designers is understandable, because there are many people with black skin in the United States. But on the other hand, each designer himself has the right to decide for whom he creates a collection, what models he wants to see in his show and what his ideas about beauty.

I know a lot of cultured and educated people who just don't see blacks and Asians as beautiful. They can work with them and even be friends, but they do not perceive them as beautiful, and the world of fashion is the area where you want maximum contact with beauty.

It is quite possible that soon the mandatory requirement will be to attract models of non-traditional orientation, models with developmental lags. Is it freedom when the state and various organizations tell businesses and people how to live and what decisions to make? The choice of models is a matter of taste and personal preference.

In the minds of every person, and especially a designer, there may be their own standards of beauty. If we live in a really free world, then we have the right to choose which models to invite to demonstrate our collections, who to hire and how to raise children. In general, lately we have been rapidly deprived of freedom of choice under the guise of caring about the spread of freedom.

Our notions of beauty cannot harm normal people. Only offended, inferior women and men react hysterically to advertising campaigns with “overly ideal” models. Why are we denied the opportunity to have our own ideas about beauty?
