David Koma is a London-based designer of Georgian origin, born on September 4, 1981. David Koma is the founder of the David Koma brand, and since January 2014 is the art director of Thierry Mugler.

Biography and career of David Coma

David Komakhidze was born in Georgia, in Tbilisi. From the age of eight, his parents and teachers noticed that the boy was enthusiastically drawing, but not cars or military equipment, but sketches of women's dresses, and moreover, he dreamed of going to study at Central St. Martins.

When he was 10 years old, the family moved to St. Petersburg. From that moment on, new horizons opened up for David. Here he graduated from the Art School. B.M. Kustodiev, and with honors. Then he continues his studies at the St. A.L. Stieglitz.

At the age of 15, David held his first show as part of the "Defile on the Neva" show. During his studies, Koma actively participated in all competitions related to fashion, studied the fashion market. During this time, he realized that his vision in fashion design was very different from others. When he turned 18, he moved to London, where his dream came true - studying at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design.



David Komakhidze's graduate work for the title of bachelor became the best in the course, and he continued his studies for a master's degree. Soon, the Pretty Woman collection received two prestigious awards at once: the Harrods Design Award and the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award.

After that, the famous London department store Harrods enters into a contract with him to sell his clothes. It was a tremendous success that did not go unnoticed in the media. This was followed by a contract with the London store Brown's Focus.



In the same year, the beginning of cooperation with the famous Topshop brand - David Koma for Topshop. From the first shows, the designer was compared with Mugler, Cardin, Alaya. He, like his idols, is based on femininity, sculptural silhouettes and a futuristic charge.

Among the many famous brands, David Koma's style is quite distinctive for its futuristic direction. His things seem to come to us from the future, there is something fantastic and even unreal in them. He is assisted by his wife to run his own brand and be the art director of Thierry Mugler. It was she who became his business partner and first assistant. Responsibilities between the spouses are clearly divided: his wife Sasha deals with the commercial side, David himself - the creative side.Keeping up with everything is not so difficult for David, and not only because his wife helps him, but also his ability to concentrate on work, be organized and manage his time correctly.

David Kom can be called a happy person, because he is doing his favorite thing. His dream has come true, but being satisfied with what has already been achieved is not his rule. David sets new goals. The designer likes the style and character of many fashion houses. For example, he admires houses such as Fendi, Paco Rabanne, Gianfranco Ferre, Pierre Cardin.



Silhouettes of David Coma, with their characteristic sharpness, layering, classic colors and geometric lines, open areas of the body, are always recognizable. And the latest collection of the 2017 season is no exception.
