Zippers - fasteners in fashion history

The zipper, which spread during the First World War, was invented much earlier, and all this time only those who invented and perfected it knew about it. In the USSR, they did not know about it at all until 1930.

In the modern world, we often come across familiar little things that not only make our life easier, but also decorate. However, we are so used to them that we do not attach due importance and do not think about how they came into our lives, and who invented them. We notice only when we suddenly lose this little thing.

So what are we talking about? - About the zipper, which is used to fasten clothes, shoes, bags, covers, backpacks and other accessories.

The small clasp took long enough to take root. On the one hand, the inventors did not immediately succeed in creating that ease of use of lightning, and on the other hand, people hardly accepted this innovation, which was also unreliable for quite a long time.

It may sound funny, but at the end of the 19th century, to teach people how to use the new fastener, it came with a two-page instruction. Who wants to read all this. Most of you know how difficult it is to get people to read today.

Who invented the zipper

So who invented the zipper? You still need to remember about him, because the inventor put a lot of work into his invention, but at the same time he did not acquire any wealth. Honor and praise to these "madmen" who put their souls into their designs and creations, sparing no effort, labor and sometimes their own funds.

This inventor was the American Whitcomb engineer Leo Judson, who patented it as a shoe fastener in 1891. Then there was a long way to improve it, to which the inventor put a lot of effort. Whitcomb Judson never saw the pinnacle of the success of his invention, but he believed in his future life and popularity.

After the death of the inventor, an American engineer of Swedish origin, Gideon Sundback, took up the modernization of the fastener. He created a new design, but again failed. For about five years he worked on new designs, and in 1914 a new form of fastener appeared, similar to our modern one. However, it was not easy to introduce it into production, since the manufacturers remembered frequent failures and, of course, treated them with distrust.

But in 1917 America entered The first world war, and on flight overalls, uniforms, and even on the tarpaulin that covered the aircraft, a zipper was used. The military and workers were the first to appreciate the convenience of the fastener, and then the children for whom it became easy to fasten clothes and shoes. Zippers began to be used in sportswear and leather goods. Finally, lightning has received consumer acceptance.

And in 1923, Bertrand Roque, president of a large shoe company, chose a zipper for rubber overshoes. After that, it began to take root everywhere and everywhere. With the help of a zipper, clothes could be removed many times faster. In the 1930s, the clasp became a symbol of sexual activity. However, women of those years were in no hurry to use it in their clothes, then it was believed that this emphasized their frivolity and availability.

Now no one thinks about it, so the "zipper" can be seen anywhere and on any clothing.
