How to sew a skirt out of old jeans

It's hard to believe today that there was a time when jeans were in short supplyand also cost as much as the average monthly salary. This was the case in the USSR and our mothers and fathers could not afford to buy several new jeans every year. Then the jeans were taken care of and worn to the last, then they were altered, rivets and zippers were removed in order to transfer them to some other trousers. Fortunately, this time has passed, now the purchase of new jeans is completely invisible to the family budget. But still, sometimes you don't want to part with old jeans at all, they are so fond of, and besides, you want to show off your creative abilities. If this is your case, you can safely sew a skirt from old jeans with your own hands and give your favorite jeans a second life.

It is quite possible to make a pencil skirt from old and worn-out jeans, which will be appropriate even in the office. A sexy pencil skirt can be made from just about any jeans model. And do not forget that denim skirts have significant advantages - they can be worn with various details of clothing, they can be easily combined with smart and everyday things, and they are also durable and do not get dirty as quickly as skirts made of other materials.

Operating procedure:

1. Use scissors or a ripping knife to free the bottom seams from the outside and inside stitches.

2. Proceed to sewing the inside seams and line along the fastener. Do not touch the outer seams!

3. Place the jeans on a flat surface with the front pockets facing up. Lay the ruler perpendicular to the clasp. Fold up the leg so that the bottom edge is parallel to the ruler. Cut the bottom of the jeans along this line. Don't throw away the fabric! It will be needed to design the front half of the future skirt.

4. Repeat step 3 for the other leg. Note. For a longer skirt, lower the ruler down.

5. Insert one inner panel between the legs at the front of the garment, overlapping the fabric and making sure that the buckle is aligned.

6. Use tailor's pins to secure the fabric along the seams, making sure the buckle is aligned and the fabric overlaps at the top join.

7. Sew along the joining line of the inner panel of the skirt (one stitch along the split line and the other close to the hem line). Turn the skirt inside out and trim off any excess fabric, leaving 1.3 cm.

8. Turn the skirt to the right side, placing it on a flat surface with the back pockets up. Place the left leg over the right leg and secure with pins. Try on a skirt. Stitch as described in step 7. Fold over the edge, sew a stitch, or draw out several threads to create a fringe edge.

Advice... To make a straight seam on the fastener, especially on the back half, cut along the curved seam until the overlapping fabric evens out.
