Parsons School of Design and Fusion Fashion Show

We have already told you about such famous world design schools as Marangoni Institute (Italy) or Saint Martin's College (Great Britain), today it is the turn to tell both about the next educational institution and about the new country. Today we will talk about the Parsons School of Design, which is located in Greenwich Village, New York, USA. Parsons School of Design and Fusion Fashion Show.

Parsons The New School For Design - https://www.newschool.edu/parsons/ was founded back in 1896 and then bore the name of its founder - the American impressionist painter William Merritt Chase. It was later renamed the New York School of Art. And at the beginning of the twentieth century, the School of Art was headed by Frank Alvah Parsons, after whom it was named in 1936. Parsons himself (he was the director of the School of Art from 1911 until his death in 1930) at the beginning of the twentieth century, very far-sightedly declared that in the future art, design, would be closely associated with industry. It is he who introduces at the School the training programs for students in such specialties as interior design, advertising, and fashion design.

In 1970, the Parsons School becomes part of the New School for Social Research (now The New School). Hence, in fact, the word "New" appears in the full name of the Parsons School - Parsons The New School For Design.

Today, the Parsons School actively collaborates with such well-known companies in the fashion world as, for example, Louis Vuitton, which allows its students to get real work experience literally at the forefront of the fashion industry.

Among the graduates of the Parsons School of Design are such outstanding designers as Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, photographer Steven Meisel, and many other equally famous designers, photographers and artists.

Within the Parsons School, there are five areas of study, five schools:

• School of Art and Design History and Theory (here students study the history and theory of art and design)
• School of Art, Media, and Technology (design, media design, technology, here, by the way, includes photography, illustration, and graphic design)
• School of Constructed Environments (design, creation, environment, environment: architecture, interior)
• School of Design Strategies: Cities, Services, Ecosystems (design strategies: city, service sector, environment, here they study design management, ecology, integrated design)
• School of Fashion (in fact, the school that interests us, the school of fashion)

Fusion Fashion Show

Parsons School of Fashion students annually participate in the FUSION FASHION SHOW - a kind of competition between students of the best schools in the field of US clothing design: Parsons School and the Fashion Institute of Technology, also located in New York. The winners of this show not only have the opportunity to be noticed, but also receive monetary scholarships. The judges choose both the best designer from each school (here students of each of the schools compete with each other), and the best designer from two schools (in this nomination, schools are already competing with each other).

In this 2012th year, the Parsons School of Design was recognized as the best school. And the best designer from Parsons was Julien Archer, originally from Richmond, Virginia. He is 20 years old.

Julien Archer (Julien Archer)

The best designer from the Fashion Institute of Technology was named San Kang (San Kang), the birthplace of this young man is South Korea. He is 23 years old.

The competition website has something like a business card for each of the novice designers in which they answer a few questions.

Julien Archer's answers:

What is fashion for you? Exploration, a way to reveal and hide the forms of a person.
Julien Archer collection: I thought about how we wear clothes: dress, undress and create a certain atmosphere for our body.
What or who inspires you? Nature, old photos ...
What does participating in the Fusion Fashion Show mean to you? An opportunity to take a chance and learn about how I work.

San Kang's answers:

What is fashion for you? The only thing I really like.
Collection: "Enigma" is a modern collection of menswear with beading and exotic leathers.
What or who inspires you? Paul Kim.
What does participating in the Fusion Fashion Show mean to you? Fusion gives me the opportunity to show my collection for the first time. Fusion is the first step in my career.

Well, perhaps we will hear the names of these young people in the future and more than once.
