ESMOD School was founded in Paris in 1841 and became the world's first fashion school. Its creator was Alexis Lavigne, a fashion designer and inventor. Alexis Lavigne was born in Pas-de-Calais, trained as a tailor, and I must say he was very successful in this business. Already in the 30s of the XIX century, he had his students, eager to learn from the great master. After all, Alexis Lavigne was not just a tailor, he sewed even for the French Empress Maria-Eugenie. And after he created a collection of clothes for horse riding of the Empress, they begin to call him the Great Tailor.

As an inventor, Alexis Lavigne came up with the idea of ​​creating mannequins-busts, with the help of which it is more convenient to carry out fitting, as well as a soft measuring tape, an invariable attribute of tailors. This tape is still called by his name in Europe - "Lavigne". Alexis Lavigne also wrote and published a book on the method of cutting and sewing women's clothing (1869) and one of the world's first options for calculating size tables.

After the death of Alexis Lavigne, the school he created is headed by his daughter, Madame Guerr, and then his granddaughter, Madame Lacont-Guerre, who will run the school until the 1940s.

In the 1970s, Alexis Lavigne's unique techniques for teaching cutting and sewing were adapted to modern market realities. In the 1980s, ESMOD expanded and opened branches in many foreign countries besides France. So, today there are 23 branches of the school in 15 countries of the world. There is also a representative office of the ESMOD school in Russia. And the only partner of the ESMOD school in Russia since 2006 is the Moscow State University of Design and Technology (MGUDT). Since 2008, the international design school ESMOD MOSCOU has been opened at MGUDT.
