Perfume fragrances and patchouli oil

Bitter, tart and sensual The aroma of patchouli oil has many benefits. Patchouli oil protects against disease, improves mood, promotes rapid renewal of epidermal cells, is one of the most erotic. Exotic oil came to us from India. A modern person is unlikely to like this smell. He's a little harsh. However, the warm resinous aroma of the oil was liked by many in the era of the Napoleonic Empire.

The somewhat woody scent of patchouli oil protected woollens from moths. At that time, all cashmere shawls were padded with dry patchouli. Therefore, the scent of patchouli and beautiful thin shawls, which were loved by women of fashion, and wrapped in long winter evenings, have become symbols of fashionable exoticism. Perfumers took advantage of this and introduced patchouli oil fragrances. But in the second half of the 19th century, the fashion for the East passed. Patchouli was forgotten, new images inspired new tastes. In addition to exotic flower plants, cocoa butter began to be used in perfumery.

Patchouli oil in perfumery

And in 1917, a chypre family of fragrances emerged, which owes its name to the Coty Chypre perfume. Its popularity was so convincing that the composition, which included oakmoss, patchouli and bergamot, became the main accord of the new family.

In the 20s of the twentieth century, patchouli oil remembered and Elsa Schiaparelli - a surrealist fashion designer, whose Shocking scent shocked and fascinated many at that time. The whims of perfume fashion are sometimes inexplicable. And with the return of the enthusiasm for the East, the fashion for some fragrances also returned. The oriental note of patchouli has become popular again thanks to the hobby of the Orient hippies of the 60s. However, it should be remembered that in 1947, when the well-known and famous perfume Miss Dior appeared, patchouli already then declared themselves by their presence in this marvelous composition.

And so, patchouli again ...
