Perfumes and oud aromas

Oat oil has been used for centuries in oriental incense - in India, Burma, China, Japan and Arab countries. It was used in religious ceremonies and celebrations, as a remedy for many diseases. Recently, oil has become one of the trendiest ingredients in the fragrances of many famous perfumers. The aromas with oud oil are sweet, deep and harmonious. At the very first breath of the scent, you want to hold your breath in order to immerse yourself in the magical world ...

It turns out that oud or agar oil is the result of a tree disease, which is formed as a defense reaction to a bacterial infection. In the infected trees, resin begins to stand out, first in the affected parts of the tree, and then all the wood is gradually impregnated, becoming harder and acquiring a dark, almost black color. The process can take decades before oil is extracted from wood. If the pith is damaged, then the whole tree has to be destroyed to obtain oil, when only the affected parts of the tree could be cut off. But, unfortunately, this happens, since the core of the tree is the most defenseless to infection.

There are several varieties of oud trees, and not all of them produce the precious oil that is needed in fragrances or incense. The variety Aquilaria, which produces oud oil, grows mainly in South and Southeast Asia. For centuries, oud oil has been supplied from India. But as demand increased, oil production began in Indochina, Indonesia and Malaysia. Today, oud plantations exist in Bangladesh, India, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and Vietnam.

Variety Aquilaria is unpretentious to the soil. Trees can grow in poor and sandy soils, as well as stony soils, in regions where the climate is hot and dry. They grow up to 6-20 m tall. The leaves are elongated, about 5-11 cm long and 2-4 cm wide. The flowers on the tree are yellowish-green, gathered in an "umbrella". But the most precious thing about the tree is not the flowers, but the resin.

Older trees have a higher resin content, and the resin gets better and better with age. High quality oud is obtained by processing trees over 100 years old. Perfumers say that real oud oil smells magical, but its synthetic counterparts are just woody-leather smells, they do not have those balsamic shades of real oud oil. However, in order to meet the growing demand for oud fragrances, many perfumers have started using a mixture of natural and synthetic oud in their compositions.

Peat oil is extraordinarily expensive, more expensive than gold. And this is already evident for what reasons. The reasons are not only a hundred-year-old tree and an insufficient amount of natural sources, but also a low yield of oil from raw materials, and the complexity of the extraction process. To get just 12ml of oil, you need 20kg of wood. Moreover, they use not only old, but also young trees, although they do not give such magic scentwhich is obtained from trees over 100 years old.

Oat oil is so expensive, its average price per kg on the market is about 18,000 euros, that it is extremely difficult to use, which is why it is mainly used in natural perfumery to increase the persistence and intensity of the perfume.

Oat oil - along with gold and precious stones, it is stored in the treasuries of the East. Many hundreds of years ago, oud became one of the most important components of oriental perfumery.
